jeff 12/21/2023 12:01:16 PM | It's that time of year again.
If you did a current version Full JCapper Program Install in 2023 (and you didn't check the Leave DFM Folders Untouched checkbox) chances are good the Installer created 2024 folder structure for you.
If not, now is the time to make sure you have folder structure for the coming new year.
For data and result files:
This is what my folder structure looks like for 2023:
C:\2023 C:\2023\Folder2 C:\2023\Folder3 C:\2023\Q1_2023 C:\2023\Q2_2023 C:\2023\Q3_2023 C:\2023\Q4_2023
And this is what my data and result files folder structure looks like for 2024:
C:\2024 C:\2024\Folder2 C:\2024\Folder3 C:\2024\Q1_2024 C:\2024\Q2_2024 C:\2024\Q3_2024 C:\2024\Q4_2024
If you don't yet have 2024 folder structure and you are running a current version of JCapper:
The easiest way to create folder structure for a new year is:
1. Launch the DFM.
2. Click MENU and select Create Data Folders for New Year.
3. Click the Create Data Folders for New Year button.
4. Key the desired 4 digit year into the dialog box, click OK, and answer Yes at the confirmation prompt.
That's It!
The interface will create the recommended (2024) folder structure for you.
If you are running an older version of JCapper and the DFM doesn't doesn't have a Create Data Folders for New Year menu item:
You'll have to create the folders manually:
C:\2024 C:\2024\Folder2 C:\2024\Folder3 C:\2024\Q1_2024 C:\2024\Q2_2024 C:\2024\Q3_2024 C:\2024\Q4_2024
And from there, just before you download data files for Jan 01, 2024, bring up the DFM and set C:\2024\Q1_2024 as your current active data folder.
And over first day or two of the new year -- carefully -- use the DFM to switch back and forth between C:\2024\Q1_2024 and C:\2023\Q4_2023 until you have picked up any and all remaining 2023 HDW Chart Files.
What about a 2024 XML Archive Folder for those of you using Scratch BOT to parse the Scratches and Changes XML file?
Manually create a new folder for archiving 2024 Scratches and Changes XML Files.
The name of the folder can be anything you want, and the folder can be located anywhere on your machine or network.
My 2023 xml archive folder structure looks like this:
C:\JCapper\_XML_2023
And my 2024 xml archive folder structure looks like this:
C:\JCapper\_XML_2024
From there, on Jan 1st before you parse the XML for the very first time in 2024:
1. Launch Scratch BOT.
2. Select MENU, and select XML Folder Archive Tool.
Note that the XML Folder Archive Tool looks a lot like and works exactly the same way as the DFM.
3. On the XML Folder Archive Tool, click the EDIT button, and set the new folder you created (above) as the Current Active XML Archive Folder.
That's It!
Oh, and one more thing.
Here's Wishing all Horseplayers everywhere a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year!
Happy Holidays Y'all!
