My wish list for JCapper Factors |
John Charte 2/7/2011 1:24:58 AM | I'm an old school handicapper who enjoys JCapper but misses the tools I have used for years. Too often I have found my UDM's flagging horses with factors containing fatal flaws that my old school tools easily and properly reject. To improve JCapper my wish is that JCapper included the following:
Rank and values for Earnings per Start (Lifetime, recent year, surface, and distance) Rank for WIN%, ITM% (lifetime, recent year, surface, and distance) Finish position of last three races Racedays, distance and surface for last race, 2back, 3back. Having these factors available for UDM creation and for inclusion in the HTML report would be my wish.
Anyone else out there have a wish list??

JimG 2/7/2011 3:20:53 PM | Hi John,
I guess what I like about the program is it is not old school. Old school factors lead to lower prices and non-profitability for me.
With that said, I always like to see things added and a mix of old and new school stuff might prove profitable.
As for added factors I would like to see Michael Pizzolla's ppf ratings included. They are very good on turf and lead to some nice prices. Researching them with Jeff's program would be great. I also would like to see tandem's (reversers) flagged but I suspect that would be rather complex as JCapper is set up. The ppf ratings should be fairly doable, but that is easy for me to say. LOL

notchback 2/7/2011 3:35:08 PM | Good topic!
I would like to be able to manually input a "strength of play" rating for udm's that would impact the user defined odds line. Maybe its the way I have my system set up but sometime I feel like I have to either go with my odds line or go with UDM hits. I've passed on horses with multi-UDM hits because the OL or prob is so low just to see the horse win... And vise-versa...
Just my thoughts.

John Charte 2/7/2011 11:11:39 PM | ...more ways to select the paceline Calcrace will use and an indicator of which paceline was chosen and used for each horse. I currently have little faith in the factor ranks JCapper produces because these ranks are paceline dependant and I have no idea if the paceline used is repesentative of the horse's current form or of today's race conditions.

John Charte 2/7/2011 11:27:25 PM | Notchback, What would your "Strength of Play" input be based on and how would it affect your UDM's and odds line? An example??
|
notchback 2/8/2011 12:58:25 AM | John - I was thinking maybe a user-selected rating of 1-10. You could run your UDM's through you DB and then select a rating that would factor into the odds line. For example; say you have a UDM that hits 15% on Turf Routes but has an average mutual of $20 or something. You could assign it as a "8" in your UPR and JCapper could "weight" the uprmlprob higher than it would without the UDM hitting that horse. Much along the same lines at the way we can currently us the Track Weight Interface.

STUBALL 2/8/2011 10:26:02 AM | Here is a suggestion on what I do...mind you I am not as successful as some others..but here goes. I run my udm thru the data window and note the win percent and the roi of that. When I create a udm I add that to the udm name. like this Cpace_Jprclass_24%_1.20 you have to occasionally rerun and edit the udm name to change the percent and roi.. You can also do this with negative exp udm's to flag weaknesses. I should be redoing mine but medical problems are hindering the process.

You might want to add the information in the betting instructions field instead as it is easily edited. The info will print in the HTML report.

JustRalph 2/24/2011 4:26:16 AM | that's what I do. Put it in the betting instructions field.
Not often, but I do it on some good ones
