Those of you who qualified for the NHC might be interested in the following email from Ron Tiller at HDW:

--quote:
"Notice to All Vendors receiving HDW Data files:

Due to the demands of the NHC tournament in Las Vegas on this coming Friday and Saturday and the number of customers who are participating, we are posting files for Friday and Saturday a day early for tracks whose data are finalized.

This gives the participants an additional day for preparation.

Only tracks that are finalized will be posted early. This means that several tracks will still only be available the day before the races, namely SA, GG, TP and OP; these will be posted as soon as they are finalized and we receive the data from Equibase.

As of 2:20PM EST today, 7 tracks have been posted for Friday. We expect a few more to be finalized and posted before the end of today.

Ron Tiller"

Congrats to any JCapper owners that qualified. It would be nice to know who you are so we can follow along your progress on the NTRA website.

I'm here in sunny Vegas as we speak. That was great of HDW to offer the data early. I've already been going through the races for tomorrow. I'm going to go through the card with hdcaper and stuball at some point since we found it so helpful for the contest.

I'm not sure how they do the tracking, but my name is Charlie Davis, so wish me luck and let's hope it's clear and sunny everywhere! I hate playing off tracks.

On a side note, I had a business trip to Toronto that came up at the last minute so on Monday I flew Seattle to Toronto, and last night Toronto to Vegas. I've also got a nasty cold. Because of that, I got in last night around 10, and went right to bed.

This is the first time I've ever been up in the morning in Vegas...sober at least. Wow, the people that have been going all night look terrible!

Good Luck Charli. Any other JCappers that you know who are also participating? Good strategy to use your PA team partners to assist. Go get 'em!!!

I haven't heard of anyone else yet, but they're having a cocktail hour tonight, so I would imagine that's one of the topics of conversation.

Charlie,

Thanks so much for the update and I will be following your progress. If this is your first time, you will have a blast. Nothing like being immersed in horse racing for two days with 1 million on the line and no distractions.

If you know of anyone else using JCapper there please let us know and if they do not mind, let us know who they are so we can follow the leaderboard.

Wish I was there. Perhaps I will do better in tourneys next year.

Whenever you can provide updates, I would love to read.

JimG,

I'll try to keep you guys posted as I'm supposed to have wifi down there. (unless I'm doing really bad!)

So far, so good. I got a front row seat with my own TV, literally less than 5 feet from the betting window. I was listening to a guy complain because he's about 50 feet away, and no TV. I would be a bit unhappy to be back there as it's just a long table, with no power supply that I can see so far.

Charlie,

Sounds like a good seat. Both times I have qualified I had a good seat about 3 rows back with my own tv and power supply.

The guys at the long tables will not have to worry. They will install extension chords so all players can have power, if needed. At least that is what they did that last year.

Good luck,

Jim

Well the day is here..Good Luck Charlie..
May all the photos be in your favor..
I read an article that saidthe last 2 years the winner doubled his starting bankroll..60 bets X $4 = $240 does not compute for me. Can anyone explain as last year winner had about $238 or am I wrong?

Day 1 recap.

I finished with 97.20.

A few mistakes cost me.

In GP race 9 I had the 8 on my sheet, and even made the bet on the 8. I didn't like the odds drop to 9/5, so I changed my bet to the 6 which cost me 9.40.

For my last Optional bet I was choosing between the 2 in OP race 9, or the 6 in SA race 4. Cost me 22 as the OP horse placed for 3.60 while the SA horse won for a combined 25.60.

In Tampa race 9 I had a strong UDM on the 3 who never got started. That made me completely ignore the 5. JPR1, massive overlay, that's the horse I should've played. Won and capped out, so that cost me 63.

So, I doubt I have a shot at winning any longer, but I do still have a shot at hitting the board. Going to get to work on tomorrow's cards now.

So looks like 13th after all of the mandatory races. Some folks still have their optionals to go, so I'm rooting for favorites the rest of the day!

Fantastic Charlie. Of course you can still win it. The likelihood of one of the top 2 having another big day is very rare.

The hard part...You've got to put today out of your mind. Both the good and the bad. Tomorrow is the important day now and I am sure you will treat it as such.

Good luck

Jim

PS...my friend who won it a few years ago was in 83rd place after the first day.

That's good to hear about your friend in 83rd. I guess the guys at the top will probably start playing it a bit safe.

Charlie, 33rd best overall in the NHC is nothing to hang your head about! (Especially true being it's your first time there.)

Get your drink on tonight.

Proud of you,
