It's that time again...

No matter what folder structure you are using - yearly, quarterly, monthly, or by individyual track...

And no matter what data files you are using - HDW or Brisnet...

Data and results file names have elements for track code, month, and day of month... but no element for year.

As a best practice:

1. Do NOT... repeat NOT... mix files from different years on the same target folder.

2. Create a new target folder right NOW.

3. Files that you download for races run in 2011 belong in that new target folder.

4. Files that you download for races run in 2010 belong in your old target folder.

Make sense?

Jeff I am quite sure that we do not have an empty field. If we did I would suggest
a field for Julian Date. I do that in Foxpro and it works dandy..subtracting
days or filtering by date is easy with
julian date...just a thought..

Jeff,

I am getting ready to do a rebuild from scratch for my 2010 files.

But before I do, please advise if you are working on a program update that would require a rebuild from scratch, as I don't want to do this twice in January.

Thanks,
Tom C

And a Happy New Year to you and all JCappers.

Hi Tom,

There is a planned program update for Jan 2011 which will (optionally) require a complete rebuild from scratch.

In that program update there will be an update to the User Sys Defs area of the program giving you more detailed control over rules for paceline selection.

That program update will also contain an interface called JCapper TripNotes. You will have the ability to record your own tripnotes based on what you see... including a player's adjustment for beaten lengths +/- based on trips for individual running lines in a horse's record.

When toggled "on" in the system settings area of the program, JCapper will have the ability to adjust speed figs for individual running lines... The adjustment is based on the player's estimate in terms of beaten lengths as recorded in the TripNotes database for the individual running line.

Both of these enhancements can be powerful in the right hands. Both are optional.

After installing this (coming) program update, a rebuild from scratch would only be required in the event the user changes the program system settings to activate these new features.

Hope I explained that in a way that makes sense.

Jeff,

Thanks for the information.

I will wait until the update is available to do the rebuild for 2010.
