JCapper Silver was quietly released a few days ago.

I purposely did not make a public announcement about this yet, either on Paceadvantage.com or on the home page at JCapper.com because I wanted to block off some free time to focus on making sure those of you who prepaid (as well as those of you who are switching over from Platinum Demos) are able to get the Silver program up and running.

If you prepaid, hopefully by now you received an email from me with download/install instructions. If not, read on.

JCapper Silver User Logons
The first thing you need is a valid JCapper Silver User Logon.

If you haven't done so already, click one of the Register links on the JCapper Message Board and create an account for yourself.

Indicate in the "about me" box, or in the "avatar/image filename" box the type of user license you are interested in: either Dual Data License ($97.00) or HDW Only Data License (Silver program is FREE as part of the HDW JCapper Silver Data Subscription Plan.)

Once I see that it's you based on your email address, I'll activate your new Message Board account. I'll also enable that account so that it is recognized by the Silver program download package.

That way the same user account that gets you into the message board also gets you into the Silver program.

Alternately, you can submit a JCapper Silver Intent to Purchase form:
http://www.jcapper.com/JCapperSilverLaunch.html#V1
(Be sure to indicate the type of user license you are interested in as well as how you will be paying if you want a Dual Data User License.)

After I set up your Silver user account, I'll shoot you a confirmation email so you can get started.

I'm also posting JCapper Silver install instructions here on the message board as a back up.

My apologies in advance for making such a long post. Better to provide detail in one central location than to type it out separately in dozens of separate emails.

"JCapper Program Download Instructions"
You'll find this link near the top of the downloads page. Click it to see detailed download instructions, or even watch a video of me installing the program.

Install Instructions Numbered steps:

1. Log into the JCapper Message Board using your personal logon. Then goto the Downloads and Tech Support area of the site. Find the program downloads link in the upper right hand area of the page and give it a click. From there, close all open JCapper program windows and download the latest version of the JCapper Silver download package. Save it to your c:\JCapperBuild folder.

Note: If you have a Silver user account, the JCapper site will present you with download links for the Silver program. If you have a Platinum user account, the site will present you with download links for the Platinum program.

2. IMPORTANT:
If you are switching over to Silver from a JCapper Platinum Demo - BEFORE running the Extractor/Installer go into your c:\2004 folder and get the following file out of the way:

c:\2004\JCapper.mdb (it's an Access database file)

Rename this file from JCapper.mdb to JCapperPlatinum.mdb.

You need to do this in order to get the file out of the way before running the Extractor/Installer.

If you fail to do this, you'll end up installing the Silver Program but have Platinum UDMs (which won't work because the Silver program doesn't have access to or recognize Platinum factors like JPR, etc.)

I should also explain that the c:\2004\JCapper.mdb file is where JCapper stores UDM Definitions.

I should also explain that the Installer is programmed to check the c:\2004 folder for the presence of this file. If the file is found just prior to executing an install, the Installer is programmed to leave it untouched.

If this file is not found, either because JCapper is being installed onto a machine for the first time, or because you renamed the file to get it out of the way - The Installer is programmed to place a fresh blank copy of this file in the c:\2004 folder.

This way you never lose UDM Definitions when a newer version of the program is installed.

Note: After an install is complete, you can always import UDM Definitions out of the old (renamed) JCapper.mdb file into the new JCapper.mdb (Silver version) file that the installer will copy onto your c:\2004 folder. (Ask me for help afterwards if you are interested in doing this.)

3. After renaming the JCapper.mdb file to get it out of the way, run the Extractor. After the Extractor has run to completion, it will launch the Install/Help Doc Wizard (Blue Screen.)

4. On the Install/Help Doc Wizard module, click the link labeled "Perform JCapper Install." It's on the left side of the module, third link from the top. This will launch the Installer.

IMPORTANT: if you are switching over to Silver from a Platinum demo, make sure BOTH of the following boxes are checked on the face of the Installer BEFORE running a Perform JCapper Install routine:

1. "Overwrite JCapper2.mdb"

2. "Leave Default Data Folders Untouched."

Notes: The Silver program comes with a pre made sql html report spefically designed to display Silver factors. Checking the "Overwrite JCapper2.mdb" box will cause the Installer to place a fresh blank Silver Version copy of the JCapper2.mdb file in your c:\JCapper\Exe folder, enabling the Silver program to generate a sql mode html report specifically designed to display JCapper Silver factors.

If you fail to check this box during the install, the Silver program's sql mode html report will generate in a format designed to display JCapper Platinum factors, but the Platinum factor values will display as zeros.

Checking the "Leave Default Data Folders Untouched" box causes the Installer to leave your existing default data folder setup untouched.

You would only check this box during an install if you have a previous installation of JCapper up and running and you want to keep your default data folders instact. Failing to check the box will cause the Installer to set your default data folder to c:\2010. Hint: You can always use the DFM to reset your default data folders after an install.

After checking both boxes, click the large button labeled "Install JCapper" to run a Perform JCapper Install.

Click ok through the various messages while the Installer does its thing. (If any of the messages looks like an error message, write down the text from the message box and contact me.)

After the installer runs to completion, launch the JCapper Silver program by either clicking the (new) JCapper desktop shortcut - or by clicking the "Launch JCapper Main Module" button on the face of the Installer.

Getting Started and Shortening the Learning Curve
Log into the Silver program using your personal JCapper Silver logon.

If you are unfamiliar with JCapper, the best place to get started is to click the Help Docs link at JCapper.com. Bring up the Demo Version Quick Start Guide Help Doc and head right for the JCapper 101 Class Outline. Work through the exercises in the Class Outline one topic at a time. Once you feel you have a good grasp of a topic move on to the next topic.
