| Ishmael 1/4/2010 11:00:09 AM | If I read another Op-ed from a politician or one of their cronies regarding racing "deserving to die" and "a money losing proposition" I will scream. How can these people be so blind? The worst part about it is their willful ignorance. They dont have any desire to really understand how the economics of racing works or how big a cut the state takes or how this cut plus high takeout impacts everything. In NY and other states they continue harp on "we shoudlnt be bailing out race tracks" without the slightest understanding of how much racing contributes directly to the states coffers. If the states want out completely am sure the tracks wont mind. Can stop sending their cut of the take to them. Can stop sending them slot revenue also. Most importantly can stop the excessive taxation of the horseplayer.
