This is simply unconscionable
This may sound harsh but any player who goes ahead and contributes handle to this place is part of the problem

Ishmael 10/25/2009 11:26:57 AM | Its insanity, really is
Complete disregard for players, ignorance of basic economics (why not double the takeout and get double the revenue, right?).
California racing and me have parted in recent years for a variety of reasons, but this is absolutely scandalous

STUBALL 10/25/2009 8:48:58 PM | Makes me wonder why I even bother... Cali racing management and gov't.sucks.. Stuball
|
Ishmael 10/25/2009 9:17:25 PM | Ill say it again. For last time, not looking to hijack this site which I respect so much
Anyone who bets California racing is part of the problem and not the solution
|
jeff 10/26/2009 12:17:08 AM | Don (Stuball) is one of the most genuinely positive people, win or lose, that I have ever had the honor and pleasure of spending time with at a race track.
When a person with that kind of good nature publicly posts:
"Makes me wonder why I even bother... Cali racing management and gov't.sucks.."
- That tells me all I ever need to know about just how wrong and misguided the thinking of track management (Santa Anita, Del Mar) and horsemen (the TOC) in California is.
A takeout increase in California for any reason can only have one outcome:
To quicken the mass exodus of serious players in numbers from the game.

capperlou 10/26/2009 1:13:26 AM | The small fields are already limiting my chance for plays. If they go through with this insane increase or close to it I will no longer play into any CA pools.
|
Ishmael 10/26/2009 8:09:23 AM | Trying to find something positive out of this. This could be a boon for some of the other tracks.
Ie; players bypassing California and putting their money into pools at other tracks
If I worked at Sunland Park for example, I would be pushing the legislators to lower takeout in response to this. To try to capture more handle. At the very least hold the line and commit to no increases.
The worst outcome possible is for players to continue playing at California, and then inevitably tapping out as the takeout grinds their bankroll to dust. Because that money would be lost

Acorn54 10/28/2009 10:56:14 PM | apparantly the california racing authorities are taking the advice of w.c. fields "never give a sucker an even break"

jeff 10/29/2009 5:29:01 PM | The HANA Member Survey
Over the past several weeks we have been working with a statistician named Dan Needham. He helped us design a well thought out comprehensive 50 question survey that we recently asked 1400 HANA members to take. The survey invite went out last night and as I type this we already have over 360 complete responses.
Our purpose in working with a statistician like Dan to design a comprehensive survey was as follows:
We wanted to let HANA members sound off/make themselves heard. We didn't want to assume we knew what issues are critical to the serious horseplayer. We wanted them to tell us - to let them identify what the critical issues are as they see them. Hearing it from them in numbers gives us very clear guidance when it comes to representing them in the best possible manner.
We are asking for the opinions of serious horseplayers on the following subjects:
Takeout, rebates, offshore betting, penalties for drug violations, pool integrity, adw wagering, adw signal availability, new wagers, favorite tracks for wagering, favorite tracks for a visit, their wagering habits, artificial surfaces, willingness to take part in a collective action (either for or against) a track or tracks, willingness to travel/participate in a HANA sponsored event at a track, and overall level of satisfaction/dissatisfaction with racing as it currently exists.
The responses we have so far are eye opening to say the least.
If you are a HANA member you should have received an invite to take the HANA Member Survey. If you don't see an invite in your email inbox check your spam folder.
The CHRB has agreed to listen to us. HANA will be presenting player opinions about takeout, rebates, offshore betting, penalties for drug violations, pool integrity, adw wagering, and adw signal availability, etc. to the CHRB in the near future.
Again, make your voice count.
If you are a HANA member - I cannot urge you strongly enough to take the survey.
If you are not a HANA member - I cannot urge you strongly enough to become one today.

mikejlb 10/29/2009 10:43:20 PM | The HANA Member Survey is a very good idea. One suggestion for HANA and the racing industry is to focus on bringing young people into the sport.
Meathead governor in CA has made many stupid mistakes. Then he tells everyone he loves Caleeforneah and for us to be strong. He is taking money that should be in the school funds and abusing it. Our schools are a mess. Now he is starting the end of racing in CA.
The LA times carried that story and I would urge all of you to post on the comment section. The paper doesn't know or care where anyone lives.

This lists the names of the 36 votes that made the new tax a law. Above is Senator Dean Florez's website.
CA residents should look up their district's state senator and call and let them know how you feel about their vote. Ask your friends and neighbors to call too.
This is Arnold's phone number 916-445-2841 if you'd like to express your feelings to the Governor/actor
