I've been playing horses since about 1981. Something happened today that has never happened to me before. And probably never will happen again in my lifetime.
Today at KEE (4/4/2008) I had just two UDM selections on the day's card: R1 #12 PARTY CRASHER
and
R4 #1 FAVORITE FANTASY
They were they only plays I made all day. Both horses made the lead right from the gate. And both stayed on well into deep stretch. But both were slowed just enough (by the poly surface) to get caught nearing the wire. Both finished second.
However, the horses that beat them in both races failed to run a straight line during their stretch runs. Both race winners managed to foul other horses and were subsequently taken down.
For the first time in my life I found myself moved up from second to the win position via DQ... TWICE in the same day.
R1 #12 PARTY CRASHER won $30.80 R4 #1 FAVORITE FANTASY won $42.80
I realize ours is a game of highs and lows. And like everyone else I've no doubt suffered my own share of bad beats over the years.
But sometimes fate shines on you and it's your day no matter what.
