Quite a few JCapper factors such as Xth Start After Lasix, Xth Start For Rider, Xth Start For Trainer, Xth Start of Current Meet, Xth Start Off Of Layoff, etc. made it into JCapper based on him showing me how he tracked them manually and used them in his own trainer UDMs.
Truth be told he is probably one of the sharpest trainer pattern players that I know. He follows one meet at a time and knows the trainer colony at that meet inside and out.
He doesn't want to see anything as detailed as past performances. He says that borders on information overlaod. His primary tool is a list of his own trainer UDMs for each race. Almost every horse in the race is flagged by at least one of his trainer UDMs. But "each UDM carries meaning behind it and collectively those UDMs paint a picture about each horse." Those are his words not mine. It's similar to the "layering" effect of my own UDMs that I've written and posted about from time to time.
He wanted a custom report showing basic information for each horse so that he could quickly scan each race on the card and see which of the trainers he follows had horses in later races. Knowing which horses are entered where and the UDMs pointing to those horses helps him form opinions about "trainer intent which is one of the most important handicapping factors you can study." (His words again not mine.)
The report is run just like any other Data Window Export. Click Menu, select the Export (clear the table first) and then run a Data Window query. Info from the starters returned by the query is written to the Export table. Then launch the report generator and use it to run a report. The procedure is exactly the same no matter which Data Window Export you run.
Here's a link to an image of the report for today 03-30-2009 TUP R4: Click Here
Found on his report is the following basic info for each horse in the selected race:
NameOfHorse, Track, Date, ClassDescriptor, Age-Sex Restriction, Race Number, Distance, Track Cond, Finish Position, Final Time of Race Winner, Rider, Trainer, and Owner.
Note that these aren't past performances. The info is being pulled from a JCapper database (playlist file) rather than today's data file and running lines taking place on race cards where he doesn't have data and results files or hasn't built a database (a meet he isn't following) aren't shown on the report.
It's exactly what he asked for and I have every reason to believe it works for him.

Then click menu. Goto to export. Then I am lost.I have no problems with cxn report or track profile. I assumed I would go to export. Click clear John W. Report. Then run data query for all surfaces and distances. But can't get any data fields into John W. Report.

On or before race day:
1. Run a Data Window Export - In the Data Window, click MENU, Exports, John W's Export Clear First. This will toggle on a Data Window Export. You will see text across the top of the Data Window on the title bar indicating that an export has been toggled on. The next query that you run in the Data Window will cause info from the starters returned by the query to be written to the Export table.
2. Run an ALL button Data Window query on a recent playlist file containing starters that are running at a current meet you are following. During the Data Window query, info about the starters returned by the query will be written to the Export table.
On race day:
3. Load one or more race card files - Use the Card Loader or Screen Two of the File Downloader to load one or more current race card data files.
4. Launch the Report Generator - In the Data Window click MENU, Exports, and select John W's Report Generator. This will launch the separate report generator.
5. Select a race card - In the Report Generator the top drop down will contain a list of loaded race card daata files. Select a loaded race card file from the drop down. This will cause the lower drop down to auto-populate with a list of races from the selected card.
6. Select a race - In the Report Generator Select a race from the lower drop down. This will cause the "go" button to become enabled and display the text "Generate John W's Report along with the name of the selected card and race.
7. Generate a Report - Click the "go" button. This will cause the Report Generator to generate the report.
8. View a Report - Click the View Report button. This will cause the report to display.
Important Note: Data will appear on the report for the selected race if and only if starters in the selected race have running lines found in the playlist file that you ran the export on in step 1 above. Running lines from (Horses shipping in) from tracks not covered in your database will not appear on this report. If you have followed the above steps and the report is blank then no horse in the selected race has running lines from card files in your database.
To run a report from another race:
Do NOT x-out of the Report itself as this will close down the Report Generator. Instead, use your mouse to select John's Race Day Report Generator from the Windows Task Bar at the bottom of your screen and just repeat steps 5,6,7, & 8 above.
