jeff 10/22/2026 4:30:33 PM | For those of you who may not know, Eureka Downs reopened last weekend.
They ran two racecards: Sat 10/17/2026 Sun 10/18/2026
On Wed 10/20/2026 Equibase put PDF Charts up on their site.
After looking the data over, I sent HDW an email asking them to hold off on putting EUR Chart Files for Sat 10/17/2026 and Sun 10/18/2026 up on the HDW/JCapper Download Server in their current state.
Both chart files are incomplete. There is a lot of work yet to do before I would want them in my database.

Note that beaten lengths at the finish for every horse in the race is a head. Right now as I type this every horse in every race for both cards has that same exact pattern (beaten lengths at the finish is a head.)
Fyi, because R2 on Sat was the first thoroughbred race at Eureka since 2008 one of the local TV stations sent a camera crew to the track.
The video is some 18 minutes long. They filmed the horses walking into the paddock, the saddling process, the post parade, pre-race warmups, the race itself, and #6 Kingston Lady in the winner's circle.
They put the video up on YouTube. Jump to a little after the 14 minute mark to see the race: https://youtu.be/YigS14fTcqs
I watched the video. (I didn't need to in order to know the winner's margin wasn't going to be a head.)

I couldn't quite catch her nose at the mirror. But her winning margin was definitely not a head.
As I watched the video I kept thinking what a beautiful little track. It reminds me of many of the tracks that used to run on the Arizona Fair Circuit.
I had called the racing office on Sat morning and gotten 5 minutes on the phone with Track GM Mike Weiss.
I found out they put down a new dirt surface on the original track oval which is 5/8ths of a mile, that they widened the clubhouse turn a bit.
The reason I called was to get a read on course layout as relates to turns. Mike told me they had not added a backstretch chute.
That meant for Saturday's R2 at 6f, they would put the gate on the stretch and run it as a 2 Turn race.
I asked if they had extended the stretch chute and was told no they had not.
I asked about longer distances - whether or not the stretch chute was long enough to put the gate there and run 8f or 8.5f (which EUR has run in the past) as 2 Turn races.
He wasn't 100% sure (and neither am I as I type this) but I suspect it likely those distances require putting the gate on the backstretch and running 8f and 8.5f as 3 Turn races.
I'll keep an eye on EUR entries. If I see a route distance I'll call the racing office the morning of and ask about gate placement and the number of turns.
I really hope they get a handle on their charts data.
At some future point I'd really like to make the trip to Eureka and attend a live card.
