Numbers Down for Turfway Fall Meet
http://news.bloodhorse.com/article/47376.htm

quote:
Turfway Park closed its 2008 fall meet with declines in all-sources and on-track handle, the Florence, Ky., track reported Oct. 3.

Wagering on Turfway races from all sources fell 20.2% to $42,596,033, or a daily average of $1,936,183 for the 22-day meet. On-track wagering totaled $2,642,594, or $120,118 in daily average, down 18.3% compared to the same period last year.

20 pct all sources handle drop is pretty steep no matter how you try and spin it.

Keep in mind that Monmouth's 08 numbers were actually UP. Unless I'm mistaken, both Monmouth and Turfway had their signals going out everywhere. Ellis was down but only 4 pct.

Any thoughts as to what's really going on here?

I believe the state of the national economy has a huge effect on handle being down not only on synth. surface tracks but across the board. I had no success with TPX and do poorly on the California circuit, especially lately, but I seem to do quite well at Keeneland even though I have noticed it seems all the races mirror a merry-go-round.
