"A Turfway Park and Belterra Park jockey has died after a car crash according to Florence Police.

Euclyn "Pede" Prentice, Jr., a Virgin Islands St. Croix native, died Monday after his car struck a bus. Police said Prentice struck the driver's side of a TANK bus in the intersection of Houston Road and Hansel Avenue around 12:33 a.m. Monday.

"The passenger car suffered serious damage as a result of the collision, causing the vehicle’s operator to require extrication from the vehicle," police said.

Prentice was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital Florence where he was pronounced deceased.

Turfway Park said they were "heartbroken" over Prentice's death.
