Note about the CXN Names Formatting setting in the Enhanced Settings Module:
If you are using .JCP files generated by JCapper in third party apps and spreadsheets I recommend you ALWAYS persist the CXN Names Formatting setting as "0 Remove Punctuation Characters."
The (several years old now) Enhanced Settings Module Help Doc contains a brief discussion about this setting when it is set to "0 Remove Punctuation Characters."...
The main implication in the help doc being that stripping punctuation characters from rider and trainer names helps the interface perform name matching in the Profile Marker for UDMs that involve rider and trainer names.
But the setting actually controls stripping punctuation characters in much more than just the RIDER and TRAINER fields.
Fast forward to now from when the Enhanced Settings Module was first added to JCapper...
Now the setting strips "illegal" characters from pretty much every field where "illegal" characters can cause problems.
What's an illegal character?
An illegal character is any character - those that are visible on the keyboard - and those that aren't on your keyboard but appear on an ascii chart that:
a. Have shown up in the Equibase data at some point in the past.
b. Have the ability to interfere with text handling in either Visual Basic (the language JCapper is written in) or VBA (the language Excel Macros are written in) or SQL.
In short, if it has the ability to break something in JCapper:
From my perspective it's an illegal character and persisting the CXN Names Formatting setting as "0 Remove Punctuation Characters" will prevent it from showing up in the data and causing problems for you --
As happened here.
