Tough day but I slugged it out and found just enough. Crazy happenings on the last race of the day. I saved my last optional for that race to bet the 1...then, somehow, I got busy shaking hands and saying thanks and forgot to put the bet in! Horse ran 2nd and paid 5.80 which would've put me in first.

Total rookie mistake. But, it's over now. I'm coming on strong tomorrow and I'm going to win the whole thing.

What a job you did. I am proud to say I started out with you...
remember Keeneland? unfortunately I could not stick with it to
achieve results like you have. medical problems with surgery next Thursday for my right eye.hopefully will improve my
vision so I can concentrate and focus again..You have worked hard to do what you are doing.Keep up the good work I will be watching for you.

YO Charlie Is there a way we can follow your picks in the
first 10 races today? I know you may not want to release them but I thought it would be great fun to root for your horses..if there was a way to do it and not jeopardize your chances. Otherwise I will watch you on the final table telecast..and may you win all your photo finishes.....I send all the good luck to you that I can...

Charlie, I realize that you are trying to be a good guy but...

Given the position you're in this morning: I want you to have the best possible chance to win this thing!

There are JCapper players in the NHC other than yourself - and some of them have multiple HDW data subscriptions.

Even though they may have significant ground to make up to get into the money:

There is a chance they might be partnering with other players who ARE in a position to vault to the top of the leaderboard in the event they have a good run.

I would strongly advise against posting your plays ahead of time. (Even in the private area of this board.)

Think about it.

If (God willing) you are in a spot to win it all late in the day you want your opponents to be completely in the dark about your selections.

An opponent who knows what your selections are knows he has to select a different horse if he wants to vault over you. (If he selects the same horse as you he cannot possibly pass you.)

Give it your all - focus 100% on the task at hand - and have the best possible day that you can. (Plenty of time for posting a recap afterwards.)

of course I don't want him to put his position at risk...and I said that so I wlll watch the leaderboard. and they are videoing the final table..I wasn't thinking that someone could inform his opponents..I want him to win it...

Congrats. It was fun to follow along as you did so well.

I have a few a questions about TimeformUS PP's and OptixEQ that you mention in the HANA article.

1 - Why do you like Timeform and do you use that in JCapper vs HDW?

2 - I can't seem to google or find OptixEQ. Can you explain a little of how you use them?

Thanks Mike, and let me see if I can answer your questions.

1. Timeform just makes things to easy to see in a quick glance, plus, I have so much faith in their chief figure maker(CJ) that I totally trust their numbers. The color coding for surfaces, color coding for fast or slow splits, etc.

I use Jcapper with HDW, and I sometimes use the pp's, but the native pp's have never been my favorite part of Jcapper. I'll look at them, but it takes me a lot longer to extrapolate what I need from them compared to TimeformUS. In both contests and my daily handicapping, shaving time off the process is important.

My screen on any day has 3 windows open for handicapping:

Jcapper HTML report, which basically summarizes all of the work I've done in the data window. This represents the single largest body of work, but in an easy to digest format.

TimeformUS PP's

OptixEQ Notes, I'll explain below.

2. OptixEQ is a suite of products put out by John Doyle primarily, with a few others on the team. The 3 products are Notes, Plot, and PP's.

Notes is what I use and reference. Basically John and 3 others make trip notes at the major circuits, using a standardized terminology. This means that no matter who made the trip note, it'll read pretty much the same, and have keywords that I understand. I've never been very good at making trip notes, so having them at my fingertips is fantastic. They also have notes suggesting equipment/class/surface changes, as well as chances to regress/improve.

Plot is a visual representation of the pace of the race, and also is laid out in a very clear, easy to understand manner. I use it, but not near as much as Notes.
