Just downloaded date files for Jan 9th, Oaklawn Park missing, they start on the 9th, any idea why not available?

Equibase site cancellations page shows Oaklawn not running because of weather for Fri 01-09-2015, Sat 01-10-2015, and Sun 01-11-2015.

OP 2nd opening weekend = Thursday-Saturday warming with temps headed to the low 50's. Sunday, rain headed back. 31* with freezing rain now. On the verge of getting comical. Ever seen "Arkies on Ice"?

Mon March 2 2015 -- PHA (PARX) -- cancelled remainder of card after 2 races.

EDIT: TUP (Turf Paradise) -- cancelled remainder of card after 4 races.

EDIT: MNR (Mountaineer/formerly Waterford Park) -- cancelled entire card. Didn't they 'winterize' the track surface in years past?

An abundance of caution is one thing. But this is beyond ridiculous.

Been playing races since 1951. In all that time I can't recall seeing anything like this.

Tues March 3 2015 - TUP (Turf Paradise) - track cannot handle the slightest bit of water.

According to the National Weather Service [and confrmed by my grandson who lives about 5 minutes from Turf Paradise] they had maybe 30/100ths of an inch of rain yesterday -- and no more than a few drops today.

Yet TUP cancelled their entire card TODAY due to 'track conditions.'

If it seems like I'm on a crusade, you're probably right. I am. Methinks there's more to many of these cancellations than 'track conditions.'

You know, when I read the above quote I thought you WERE on a crusade - and maybe a bit "out there."

But your post made me curious. I wanted to know how much rain had actually fallen in the North Phoenix area - my old stomping grounds.

So I spent some time on Google - and the search phrase "North Phoenix rainfall totals by date" eventually led me to the Weather.NorthPhoenix.org site.

Once there, after poking around for a bit, I managed to dig up a table showing rainfall totals by date for the month of March, 2015 (presumably) for the North Phoenix area.

The table shown in the above screenshot taken from the Weather.NorthPhoenix.org site shows the following:

0.04 inches of rain on Sunday March 1st 2015
0.39 inches of rain on Monday March 2nd 2015
0.03 inches of rain on Tuesday March 3rd 2015

Turf Paradise cancelled the remainder of their Monday March 2nd card after R4.

I guess I can understand that.

That afternoon I was on the phone with a friend of mine who lives in Paradise Valley - near 36th street and Lincoln - a few miles from Turf Paradise. She mentioned it was nasty outside - off and on rain with gusty winds, etc.

As it so happens I was on the phone with her again Tuesday afternoon. This time she mentioned it was nice outside...

So why cancel the entire card on Tuesday March 3rd - the day after the storm?

Is less than 1/2 an inch of rain all it takes to wreck the track surface?

Crying shame about the timing of all that rain. Always look forward to betting their turf meet.
