The latest program update now includes the initial version of the CXN Export Module.

Read the Help Doc first: http://www.jcapper.com/helpDocs/DataWindowExports.htm

The new Module has a companion Report Generator. Work on CXN Exports isn't complete yet. I'll be adding more categories and report options in the very near future. I was going to wait until it was further along but then realized what I have so far is pretty damn good.

If you run a Trainer Export on a quarterly database and then generate an Overlooked Trainers Report you should find lots of good ideas for trainer UDMs.

Read all about the lastest prorgam update in the Downloads and Tech Support Forum.

Jeff,

What is the maximum number of jockeys that can be used in one Udm? Reason I am asking is I would like to write one Udm for a large group of Jockeys that have good win% and ROI for say CompoundCpace123, so it is easy to identify on the HTML report.

I know in the past for example that tracks to avoid were limited to 12 tracks if remember right and was wondering if jockeys, trainers, etc have the same limitation.

Thanks,

Bill

The current version of the Profile Table in the JCapper.mdb file has the RiderName field as a Text data type with a max of 250 characters - Meaning it'll accept as many rider name matches as can be squeezed in until you bump up against the 250 character field size limit... at which point you'd need to create (clone) additional UDMs for more rider names.

Whew! How's THAT for a run on sentence?

Was actually thinking of changing the RiderName field (along with the TrainerName and OwnerName fields) from a Text Field to a Memo Field. FYI, Memo Fields have no upper limit for the number of characters. You could conceivably store a Stephen King novel in a Memo Field.

If you'd like to beta test a JCapper.mdb file that has been modified so that the RiderName, TrainerName, and OwnerName fields are Memo Fields shoot me an email and we can go from there.

Otherwise, you'll need multiple UDMs.

Another question about the Cxn Report, does the Cpace123 and Compoundlate123 include both dirt and turf races (or is it dirt only)?

It's both (at present.) More categories are on the way.

Jeff =

For those of us who are old and comfortable, is there any way to make the font size on the report maybe 2 points higher?

Maybe if you went to only 2 or 3 decimal points, you could gain some room and be able to keep the report the same width.

The report is fabulous, but extremely hard for us old farts to read.

Brian, Just pop the report file open in your web browser - which will have a toolbar at the top allowing you to set your own preferences.

The report file itself is named CXNReport.html and will be sitting in your Default Data Folder. If you use Windows Explorer (right click the START button and select Explore) to navigate to your Default Data Folder, you can pop the report file open in your Web Browser simply by giving it a double click from inside of Windows Explorer.

In IE 7 click PAGE, select ZOOM, and then select the Zoom level that you want. You can make the text as large as you like.

Note: Every time you generate a new report the file gets overwritten; so hit the refresh button in your web browser to view the last report file generated.

Hope I explained that in a way that makes sense.

Program Update 7/26/2008

What's Inside
Tonight's Program Update contains some enhancements to the CXN and Track Profile Report Viewers. These changes are designed to make the reports easier to read and use.

Auto Size to fit common screen resolutions
Now both Report Viewers should auto size to fit most commonly used screen resolutions when you maximize the window (double click the title bar.)

CXN Report Single Row Highlighting
I've also added some javascript to the html in the CXN Report itself. Now when you single click an individual row it becomes highlighted. It stays highlighted until you click a different row.

Example: You're looking at an Overlooked Riders Report based on an export you ran against a large database. There are stats listed for hundreds of riders. CPace123 Stats for one rider in particular catch your eye. But the rider name isn't visible unless you scroll to the left - which causes you to lose sight of the stats. Single click the row. It becomes highlighted. Scroll to the left and pick up the rider name. The highlighting makes seeing the name easier. Your eyes aren't as likely to "jump" to the wrong row.

CXN Report Column Header Insertion
I've also added logic in the CXN Report Generator that inserts Column Headers every X number of rows... where X depends on your screen resoltion. No matter where your focus happens to be on the report a row of column headers should always be within plain sight.

Example: Stats for a trainer on the report really catch your eye... the number of wins, pct, and roi jump out at you. A quick glance up or down (without the need to scroll) tells you that the impressive numbers are for claims. Single click to highlight the row. Scroll to the left to and pick up the trainer name.

Q. Do I need to Rebuild Databases From Scratch after installing this program update?

A. If you've kept current with the program updates then no - this program update does not introduce new fields to the PlayList File data structure and you will not have to Rebuild Databases From Scratch after installing this program update.

However, you WILL need to Rebuild Databases From Scratch after installing this program update if you have NOT kept current with the program updates.

I as well would be interested in the memo field v. the text field for similar reasons...I am not in a huge rush, any idea when you plan to make the memo field available via an update vs. getting a beta version?

Thanks,

Bill

Fred, Yes. The JCapper2.mdb file contains two tables for CXN Reports:

1. CXNSummary Table
2. CXNDetail Table

The CXNSummary Table is the data source for the current version CXN Reports... which is summary data... compiled summaries of what individual trainers, riders, and owners have done.

Believe it or not I'm already working on Exports and Reports based on using the CXNDetail table as a data source. The CXN Exports Module will be able to populate the CXNDetail table with horse data... or individual records for each starter exported from the PlayList File.

That will allow the report generator to run a different type of report from what you see now.

The reports that I have in mind are going to be sortable by all three: Trainer/Rider/Owner - where you should be able to pick an individual name and run a report of just his/her starters sorted/grouped by the other two name categories... for example Pick an individual trainer from the drop down and run a report listing only his/her starters sorted by rider and then owner... allowing users to spot things like trainer-rider, owner-trainer, owner-rider combinations, etc.

It's coming.

I hope I explained that in a way that makes sense.

Jeff:
Thanks for the help for those of us who are older.

I did find an easy way for me to manipulate the data and thought I'd share it.

If you right click in the middle of the report, when the window comes up, hit "select all", then right click again and hit "copy".

The whole report is now on your clipboard and can be pasted into an Excel worksheet.

Then, you can make the fonts any size you want, hide columns and sort any way that you want.

Thanks again for a wonderful program!!

Now, we can do UDM's for jockeys to trainers and trainers to
jockeys. Is there a way write a UDM that lists trainers to owners?

Also, did these reports (tables are not populated) go away?
"The JCapper2.mdb file contains two tables for CXN Reports:
1. CXNSummary Table
2. CXNDetail Table"

And, last fall you mentioned there might be an overall update
coming for a build greater that 193. Soon?

The cxn summary table populates upon running a by rider, by trainer, etc. query in the data window.

The cxn detail table populates when you run a cxn export in the data window.

Both options get you to a similar place. Of the two I prefer the 1st because its faster/easier.

I use a lot of owner-trainer udms that I developed as follows:

Cut and paste your owner name directly from the pps and execute a single owner name query like this one:

select * from starterhistory where owner='ZAYAT STABLES LLC'

Before hitting the execute button select "by trainer" from the drop down.

The data window will break the results out by trainer enabling you to see which trainers get the best results for that owner.

From there you can create a udm based on something like the following:

select * from starterhistory where owner='ZAYAT STABLES LLC'
and trainer='TERRANOVA II JOHN P'

Quietly working on a significant program update as much as free time allows. About 97% complete as I type this.

And yes: Soon.

Jeff:

I've just downloaded build 189 to experiment with the program. Will the update be so significant that I should wait and learn the program after you're finished the update? Don't want to put a bunch of time into learning a program that will be obsolete.

Thanks,
Krudler

The basics of operating the program... downloading from HDW and building .jcp and .xrd files, loading files into the program for daily live play, importing scratches using Scratch Bot, clicking the Calc Races button to generate reports, reading the reports for live play, clicking the Build Database button to build databases, using the Data Window to query your databases and perform R&D, using the UDM Wizard to create and edit UDMs... all of that stays the same.

So yes - learn everything you can using the current version of the program. (The basics of operating the program are going to stay the same.)

The upgrade is significant in that it delivers new features that are going to enhance/expand upon what you are able to accomplish with those basics.
