Have defended them for years but this is last straw. Stealing from their customers. Crist not much better for agreeing to cover up allegedly

IMHO, it's beyond sad.

My read on this FWIW:

1. NYRA allegedly knew when the takeout increase was slated to sunset but decided for political reasons to wait.

2. Crist allegedly knew what was going on but made a conscious decision to report something other than the truth.

Conjecture on my part, but looking back I recall thinking that members of the so called racing "press" like Beyer and Crist purposely avoided writing anything about the takeout increase in California. I got the feeling at the time that they were abandoning journalism in favor of protecting the status quo.

Unless there is some substantial new piece of information that hasn't surfaced yet - Crist's actions here only further my belief in that area.

I've lost all respect for him as a journalist.

Great article at Pull the Pocket today...

Horseplayer Bible? I Think That's Long Gone
"I remember when we were chatting about the HANA boycott of California racing. Was it the right thing to do? Did the members support such an initiative? Would the all-volunteer organization have enough time to put into it? Could a horseplayer group get the industry press to notice it?"

Yes there is not much if any journalism in horse racing. They are all buddies and protect each other whatever the subject is. Public always short changed. I love how both Hayward and Crist are taking the I didn't know defense. Because hard to believe they didn't know and if they really didn't know neither is competent to hold their current positions. If this was nfl or MLB there would be tons of coverage abt this. How hard would it have been for Crist to make a one call to see if nyra has the option of withholding info abt takeout? People on other forums are actually making it out that Hayward being railroaded
