Philadelphia Park ( aka Parx) |
parshooter 2/14/2012 4:00:24 PM | An interesting post on PA forum. Does anyone consider this of value? Poster makes a good point: As follows: My theory (not politically correct and maybe a bit conspiracy) minded. With the purse money that is being thrown around the jocks are just taking turns going through conditions. Win with a maiden then next race float a non winner of 2 wide and get the place and keep the condition. I just know to rip up my ticket when going into the first turn the horse has a chance to get a decent position and remarkably gets scooted 2 or 3 wide to avoid nothing. It seems in the conditioned claiming races this is especially true. Running second for a 7500 N2; pays more than an allowance win in the pre slot days. Watch how many times a jock will ride through a horses maiden win and then bail for the N2L, only to meet up again 4 or 5 races later and run lights out. This is more money than these pinheads have ever seen. A far cry from the Lincoln Park meets where jocks had to set up exactas to get paid. I just handicap the horse that looks to have either the moxy to move up in class if they win and the classy types that run in spite of the jock. I am not really accusing any body of anything other that what looks obvious and those guys are so sneaky about holding a horse it would be a wild goose chase to hang anything on anyone. Just gotta figure out when the trainer says it is time to move up and take a chance on loosing your best friend (the condition). 4 times running second as the cheapest maiden pays how much? It is sick and is doing nothing in Pa but getting the legislators ready to take it all back. Have we created better product? Maybe. Is it better racing? They got a lot of money, 2 tracks sometimes 3 thoroughbred tracks and not really doing much to make a dent into the players handle. Saw the same thing in IA and finally the citizens turned on Prairie Meadows and purses and meet length came back to reality when the media boys saw the pursestrings during an election year and cryed foul. Too much money+very poor marketing and poor player quality assurance= Fill in blank. The purse money is way out of line and a whole new frontier in hating pinheads for poor rides is about to dawn.
I have been playing Philly a bit and doing well there thanks to JCapper :)
Incicidently I still can't get scratch bot to work for PHA. Can someone please advise correct format for updating scratches?

CLDavisMD 2/15/2012 12:49:17 AM | Hi Wayne,
No comments regarding the interesting PaceAdvantage post.
Try PHA // PHA // Parx Racing in your Track Abbreviation table.

jeff 2/15/2012 12:26:52 PM | My 2 cents, fwiw...
One of the things I do as part of my overall process is watch trips - and make tripnotes. No I don't do this for all races everywhere - but certainly for the races that I bet.
For the most part, over the past few months, the best trip on the dirt (my opinion) at PHA has been from off the pace/wide on the turn.
Notice that I said "for the most part." I'm not sure why (track maintenance/weather?) but PHA does have its share of days when it changes - when the best trip is simply on or near the lead.
Here's what I see as relates to trips/bad rides at PHA:
The riders don't seem to be aware WHEN the best trip happens to be on or near the lead - at least not in the first few races. So most of them ride to what they (or whoever they ride for) thinks the best trip is: Off the pace and wide.
The rider who does this to a horse on a speed favoring track literally insures the horse will not get its picture taken in the winners circle that day (no matter how well the horse runs.) A perfect example of this would be #1 Keiths Rose yesterday (2/14/2012) in R1. Ask me how I know (as it was costly.)
Other than the normal games (trainers using drugs that aren't being tested for, etc.) I don't think there's anything nefarious going on at PHA. LOL.

ryesteve 2/19/2012 7:57:19 AM | I'll toss in a couple cents too. I know exactly where you're coming from. I own a piece of a horse competing in basement maiden claimers at Aqueduct. I know full well that as soon as she wins, it's going to be very hard for her to be competitive, and in all probability, she'll be at Finger Lakes by summertime. But it's not like we're rooting for her to lose, and we're certainly not telling the jockey to give a half-hearted effort. Yes, we're happy when she picks up a check and keeps the condition, but the winners of these races, who are presumably in the same boat we're in, always look very happy to have picked up the win. So no, I can't imagine there's any kind of widespread sandbagging going on.

jeff 2/22/2012 11:11:32 AM | Requirements for making the XML button work:
Table Entries Screenshot #1 - Scratch Bot Track Abbreviations Table Entry - click here -
The characters "PHA" (without the quotes) entered in the Track Code field are an exact match of the first 3 characters of the file name of the .jcp data file.
Note: If you are using Brisnet files, instead of "PHA" use "PRX" in the Track Code field. Why? Because the first 3 characters of the file name for a .drf or .mcp file for this this track is "PRX" (without the quotes) and you need to create an exact match between the track code field and the first 3 characters of the data file name.
The characters "PARX RACING" (without the quotes) entered in the Notes field are an exact match of the track_name as shown (highlighted in yellow) in the next screenshot.
Screenshot #2 - Equibase XML from Tues 2/20/2012 -
This screenshot was taken after expanding the XML and clicking to the desired track - in this case Philadelphia Park (or PARX RACING.) Before taking the screenshot I scrolled through the xml so that the part I wanted to emphasize in this post was displayed at the very top of the screenshot - Of course I am talking about the track_name attribute... displayed as the top line and (crudely) highlighted in yellow so as to make it stand out.
The track_name as listed in the xml is "PARX RACING" (without the quotes.) You need to create an exact match, character for character, between the track name recorded by you in the Notes field of the track abbreviations table (see the first screenshot) and the track_name as listed in the XML.
Sometimes It's All in the Timing The system was designed so that a track employee would key in the early scratches and changes as soon as they were finalized in the racing office. From there, early scratches and changes for that track would immediately propagate to the xml - where they would (immediately) become available to the outside world... Players, Equibase, ADWs, other tracks, otbs, etc.
Charles Town is a track that embraced the system - and if you are paying attention you can't help but notice that early scratches and changes for CTX are available in the XML a good 5-6 hrs prior to post time for R1 most nights.
PHA, of PRX, or Philly Park or whatever you want to call it is one of the few tracks in North America that (to this day) resists in their adoption of the Exquibase Scratches and Changes system. (NYRA being the only other example I am aware of.)
By way of contrast, scratches and changes for PHA or PRX sometimes don't show up in the xml until 10-15 mtp for R1.
My point being that if you have made the correct table entries (as shown above) and you are still not picking up scratches for a track - chances are it's a timing issue.
Verify by clicking the + button on the interface, scroll through the xml - and visually check to see if scratches for that track are actually in the xml. If no scratches and changes for the track appear in the xml, then yes: It's a timing issue. In that case, try again later in the day.

tanix 3/22/2012 3:44:58 PM | Just a note on Parx and the scratch bot. Try the following:
Open the scratch bot, click the "+", then click the entry for "PHA Scratches" on the left.
Now wait. It may take 6-90 seconds, but eventually the scratches will start popping up one by one. I've had this happen on three different computers and multiple program versions. It ALWAYS happens with Parx and ONLY happens with Parx.
I don't play that track very often, so I haven't bothered to report it, but there is definitely some sort of bug in play there.
|
tanix 3/22/2012 3:45:58 PM | That should read "60-90 seconds".

jeff 3/24/2012 12:24:16 PM | No PHA card yesterday/Fri (so couldn't test it.)
With 7 card files loaded, including the PHA .jcp file for today/Sat - I tested it just now.
After logging into the Brisnet site to make it put a session cookie on the hard drive, I clicked the live tote and track code links for each loaded card file (including PHA.) -- The tote and scratches pages for all card files (including PHA) rendered within a second or two.
Also clicked the XML button -- which rendered in an acceptable time frame.
Don't know what to tell you.

jeff 3/24/2012 2:38:55 PM | Retested Sat 3/24/2012 at 11:30 am Pacific time. Same result... all scratches web pages rendered and parsed quickly.
Will test the PHA scratches pages periodically over the next few days and see where it leads.

Hdcper 3/25/2012 8:43:32 PM | Jeff,
With regard to Pha or the other abbreviation, when I use Scratch bot, Pha doesn't not load scratches either, for both Hdw and Bris.
It hasn't worked for months, I manually load them.
Again, I am only using scratch bot not the live module.
