Jeff, thanks for posting that -- 3 pieces of buried info that I found interesting:
1st -- horses short on experience/low number of lifetime starts = awful bets.
2nd -- horses conditioned in easy spots/low field size last out = awful bets.
3rd -- horses with minimal conditioning/low basicfitness = awful bets.
Methinks you exposed a weakness in current day thinking behind the way "horsemen" handle their stock.
Imho: Horses are athletes!!!
I'm a staunch believer in old school thinking that says:
RACE the horse into condition!
Your analysis tells me that horses handled in an old school way got the best of it in this year's bc -- while bettors backing horses that were coddled took it in the shorts.
