OVERVIEW - What you need to know before getting started
The download instructions on this web page (below) will get you into the password protected area of the JCapper Message Board where you can download a FREE fully database enabled LIVE (not a demo) version of JCapper Silver that runs on data and results files from HDW (Handicappers Data Warehouse.)
You can demo the Silver Software without spending any of your own money on data. Inside of the Demo User Quick Start Guide Help Doc you will find a Class Outline, and in that class outline you will find at least one Free download that will get you Free sample Data and Results Files (courtesy of HDW) that you can use to work your way through the Class Outline while learning to operate the basic JCapper program.
You can also begin acquiring a significant amount of data right away. Simply contact HDW (Handicappers Data Warehouse) directly and tell them you want to sign up under one of the JCapper Silver Data Plans.
The best way to get started is to read through the Install Instructions below, download and install the Free JCapper Silver program, dive into the Demo User Quick Start Guide Help Doc, and work your way through the exercises in the Class Outline.
IMPORTANT - Clearing Platinum Version Database Files
Perform this step ONLY if you have previously installed a JCapper Platinum Demo on the machine where you will be installing JCapper Silver. (Otherwise SKIP this step.)
The JCapper installer is programmed not to touch .mdb database files where your UDM defintiions are stored. (That way you never lose your work as the result of doing a program install.)
If you will be installing JCapper Silver onto a machine that has a Platinum demo installed on it, you will need to rename (or delete) the following two Platinum version files to get them out of the way so that the installer can put Silver versions of these files onto the machine:
1. c:\2004\JCapper.mdb
(rename to something like c:\2004\JCapper_Platinum.mdb)
2. c:\JCapper\Exe\JCapper2.mdb
(rename to something like c:\JCapper\Exe\JCapper2_Platinum.mdb)
Notes:
* If you created UDMs using the Platinum demo, be aware that they are stored in the c:\2004\JCapper.mdb file. If you rename this file rather than delete it, after installing the Silver program - you can use the UDM Wizard to import UDMs out of your old file into the new Silver version of the same file.
* If you created a custom sql mode html report layout using the Platinum demo, be aware that data driving your report is stored in the c:\JCapper\Exe\JCapper2.mdb file. If you rename this file rather than delete it, after installing the Silver program - you can use the JCapper2 Imports Screen to import report layout definitions from your old file into the new Silver version of the same file.
Note: Skip the above two steps if you are installing JCapper Silver onto a machine that has never had a Platinum demo installed on it.

Downloading and Installing JCapper Silver

How to get started:
All program content is delivered from the password protected Downloads and Tech Support area of the JCapper Message Board. Until you create an account for
yourself, use the following temporary public logon credentials:
Temporary public username and password:
Username: SILVER01HDW
Password: Ferdinand
The above logon credentials are not case sensitive will enable you to log into the board as a JCapper Silver user.
This same logon will also enable you to log into the Silver program after you install it.
After logging into the message board, navigate to the Downloads and Tech Support area. Click the program downloads link (upper right area of your browser
window.)
From the program downloads page, click the link labeled Install Instructions. Read the instructions first to get a sense of what it is you will be doing.
After reading the install instructions, download and install the latest JCapper Silver program version.

Downloading Files from the HDW Site (and building comma delimited text .JCP Files)
From there, I'm guessing the first thing you will want to do is learn how to use the File Download Tool in the HDW File Mgr Module to download files from the
HDW Site and run .JCP and .XRD File Build routines to create comma delimited text files that are not just JCapper compatible – but are compatible with other
programs as well.

Goto http://www.JCapper.com and click the link labeled Message Board. Then click one of the register links, and create an account for yourself. (Hint: Use YOUR NAME in the about me box.)
Once I see that it’s you I’ll activate your account (and give you access to the private area of the JCapper Message Board.)
